Harold Hopkins, Sr. Obituary

Harold Chester Hopkins, Sr. passed peacefully in his sleep on April 8, 2018, at the age of 90. A native of Idabel, OK, Harold was born to Mae (Harmon) Hopkins and William Alvin Hopkins on May 26, 1927, in Cisco Community, OK.

After serving in the US Navy during World War II, he returned to Idabel, where he met and married his beloved wife of 66 years, Lexie Lois (Martin) Hopkins, who preceded him in death.  He graduated from Oklahoma A & M college in Stillwater, OK and went to work for Hughes Tool Company.  He later became an Allstate insurance agent achieving the company’s highest honors and awards.  He was loved and trusted by everyone and developed personal relationships with all of his clients.

Harold and his wife Lexie were avid travelers and made several trips with his only brother, Kenneth and sister-in-law Delores, that were filled with adventure, fun and laughter creating very fond memories for both.

In addition to his brother Kenneth and sister-in-law Delores, Harold will be forever loved and remembered by his four children: Harold Hopkins, Jr., Cindy (Hopkins) Cerne, Tommy Hopkins and April (Hopkins) Bowers, daughters-in-law: Carey (Layton) Hopkins and Sharon (Hill) Hopkins, sons-in-law: Victor Cerne and Brett Bowers, grandchildren: Brady, Madison, Casey, Caitlin, Taylor, Bailey, Molly, Justin, Trey and Marcus, and seven great-grandchildren.

His love of family extended to many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as dear friends.

Harold was a devoted husband, father and “Pawpaw”.  He had the gift of humor, an infectious laugh and truly enjoyed a good joke.  He had a passion for music, especially the piano, and was an accomplished woodworker but his greatest joy was derived from his family.  Pawpaw and Granny provided the “gathering place” for siblings and grandchildren to form deep bonds of love and lasting memories.  The picture of him in his khaki jacket and Navy veteran ball cap is etched in all of our hearts.  We will miss him dearly.

The family will receive friends at the Clardy Funeral Service from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. April 20, 2018.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m Saturday April 21, 2018 at the Clardy Funeral Service Chapel with Tom Hopkins officiating.  Interment will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery in the Forest Grove Community.  A reception will immediately follow at the Museum of the Red River in Idabel.  All friends and family are invited to attend.
