Alvetra Laverne Johnson was born in Idabel, Oklahoma to Andrew and Annie Hooks on January 23, 1933. She attended Slater-Rosenwald Middle School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1951. She was a long time member of the Worldwide Church of God.
Alvetra served two years in the U.S. Army in Japan. She was a cook for faculty and students at Ambassador College in Big Sandy, TX. Alvetra loved children and cared for orphans in her home. She also helped raise some of her nieces and nephews.
Alvetra was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Annie Hooks, brothers Aaron, Elzie, Cleveland, Raymond, Theodus, Leroy and Alvin, and her daughter Stephanie Ann Chatman.
She leaves to cherish her memory, brothers, Johnnie Lee Hooks (Oklahoma City, OK) and Carvin Hooks (Chicago, IL), sisters, Sylvia North (Idabel, OK) and Evelyn Hooks (Bentonville, AR), sister-in-law, Lorraine Hooks (Idabel, OK), grandson, Jason Andrew Chatman and great-grandson, Maximus Chatman, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Clardy Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Martin David Hooks officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery in Idabel, Oklahoma.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Clardy Funeral Service Chapel.
