Brenda Hughes

Brenda Hughes, 79 of the Redland Community, passed away March 23, 2025 at
McCurtain Memorial Hospital. She was born August 6, 1945 at Long Beach, California.
At the age of four, she and her family moved to the Holly Creek Community where she
was raised. She married Kenneth Hughes at the First Baptist Church in Idabel on
January 25, 1963.
Serving as secretary of the Haworth Junior High School for twenty-two years, Brenda
instilled love and confidence in the students and was a caretaker and great friend to the
teachers there. She was actively involved in the 4-H and FFA organizations and was
an inspiration to all Haworth students. She was lovingly called “Mama Hughes” until she
became “Nana” to not just her grandchildren, but all children. She was the best Nana,
and she spent her summers caring for her grandchildren and keeping them busy with all
sorts of summer activities. An accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed sewing and took
on numerous sewing tasks for the community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Vasquez Tackett; brother,
Kenneth Tackett; daughter-in-law, Shawna Hughes; and brother-in-law, Phil Wortham.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Kenneth Hughes; sons, Kyle Hughes
and Klyne Hughes both of the Redland Community; daughter, Karla Williams and
husband Scott of Eufaula, Oklahoma; brother, Howard Tackett and wife Mary of
Gordonville, Texas; sister, Shirley Wortham of Van Alystyne, Texas; grandchildren,
Taylor Donaldson, Rachel Donaldson, Brantley Hughes and wife Lacey, Faith Hughes; great-grandson,
Walker Hughes; bonus grandchildren, Joshua Williams and wife Gina, Jennifer Spangler
and husband Jason, Jesse Miller and wife Nikki; ten bonus great-grandchildren;
numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at the Clardy
Funeral Service Chapel.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2025 the
Clardy Funeral Service Chapel.
