Byron Dale Foster, Jr., 70, of Garvin, passed away December 24, 2021. He was born March 13, 1951, at Hugo, Oklahoma, the son of Gertrude and Byron Dale Foster, Sr. He married Karen Weaver at Clarksville, Texas on February 18, 1977. He was raised in the Church of Christ and was a saved Christian.
Byron retired from the railroad industry but he never slowed down. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Garvin Fire Department for the last twenty-five years and currently serving as Fire Chief and Mayor for the City of Garvin and former Chairman and current member of the McCurtain County Firefighter’s Association.
Very active in the community, Byron was a Boy Scout Master of Troop 399 for 16 years, member of the Idabel Masonic Lodge, member of the Valliant School Board, Reserve Sheriff’s Deputy and volunteer for many fundraisers, events and people in need.
Byron was ornery and stubborn, yet very caring and genuine. He would give you the shirt off his back. Family was important to him and he always showed his love and support for his grandkids and their band and sporting events.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Foster; daughter and son-in-law, Ashlei and Jon Jobe, of Garvin; grandchildren, Sidney, Sami and Cash Jobe, all of Garvin; brother and sister-in-law, David and Pam Foster, of Foreman, Arkansas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Gary Taylor, of Redland, and Becky and Steve Gibson, of Texarkana.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the First Baptist Church in Idabel with Jerry Falling officiating.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2021, at the Clardy Funeral Service Chapel.
In lieu of flowers a memorial scholarship has been setup at First State Bank in Idabel.
