Carl R. Osland, age 92, passed away May 28, 2026 in Plano, Texas. He was born
December 10, 1933, in Aurora, Illinois to Carl L. Osland and Margaret (Johnson)
Osland.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Roberta “Babe” Milam; brothers,
Eugene “Sam” Osland and Terry Osland; sister-in-law, Judith Osland; nephews,
Scott Osland and Shawn Osland.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Carl loved spending time fishing, tending
to his garden, and visiting with family and friends. Whether sharing stories on the
porch, working outdoors, or enjoying time with loved ones, he made people feel
welcome and valued. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW and was
proud of his achievements in the United States Marine Core, which consist of
National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Untied Nations Service
Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
Above all else, Carl treasured his family. He was especially devoted to his
daughters, with whom he shared a close and loving bond throughout his life.
Nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by his grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. He took pride in their accomplishments, cherished every
visit, and loved hearing about their lives.
Carl first began coming to McCurtain County in 2012 and quickly grew to love the
area and its people. In 2021, he made McCurtain County his permanent home.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Karla Burton and husband Paul, Kara Bates
and husband Don; grandchildren, Justin Lenert, Jacob Lenert and wife Amy,
Jeremiah Lenert, Kyle Bates, Travis Bates and wife Cynthia; and his cherished
great-grandchildren, Ethan Lenert, Olivia Lenert, Orion Lenert, and Eleanor Jane
Bates; brother, Dale Osland; mother of his children, Janice Hokanson; special
friends, Jake and Missy Jacob, Jim Peters, Milt and Gail Dunn, Lyn and Sandra
Duanheimer; along with his Hill’s Nursing Home family.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
