Carlotta Grimes

Carlotta “Lotta” Jan Grimes was born to Roy Ray Holmes and Bonnie Jane
(McMillian) Holmes on December 19, 1953, as the youngest of four children.
Throughout her life she had many accomplishments; she graduated with a Bachelors
in psychology and sociology from Oklahoma State University. She made a career
working for DHS, where she dedicated 38 years, only to retire and return to the work
force a short time later at Edward Jones, where she met many life longs friends that
were more like family. She served on the Denison school board for many years, but if
you asked her what one of her biggest accomplishments was, she would tell you it was
marrying the love of her life, Jimme Dale Grimes, JR. on August 18, 1986, they spent
39 wonderful years loving each other. Together they had one daughter Bethany Jan
(Grimes) Hawley. Carlotta always said “that was plenty”.
Carlotta loved her family and spent countless hours trying to keep everyone organized
and taken care of from managing her husband’s business to fulfilling her favorite role
as “Prissy”. Anyone that knew her knew that while she enjoyed watching a good Matt
Dillon episode, a Sunday hamburger, being part of Victory Life Church, or spending
time with her friends, being “Prissy” to her grandchildren, Coben Dale Stewart,
Caisley Rose Hawley, Cashley Cummings Hawley, was what she lived for, from field
trips, school parties, plays, band performances, homework, ironing clothes, and
graduations, to the “Thursday night Prissy and Pop night” she was an active and
crucial part to her husband, child, and grandchildren’s lives and will be greatly
missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister Patricia “Trish” Holmes, a brother
Steve Holmes, and a brother-in-law Johnie Grimes, maternal grandparents Paul and
Nancy McMillian, paternal grandparents John and Minnie Viola Holmes.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Jimmie Dale Grimes, Jr., daughter and
son in law Bethany and John Hawley, grandchildren Coben, Caisley, and Cashley,
Sister and Brother-in-law Dorthy and George McKearin, sister-in-law Claudette
Holmes, sister-in-law Allene Grimes, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends,
extended family, and former colleagues.
Carlotta was a very organized, precise, yet simple woman. She valued her
relationships with God, her family, and always gave everything she did 110%. She
truly was the glue to her family and while there is a void left in our hearts, her
memories, attention to detail, and hard work ethic will live on.

The family will receive friends 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2026
at Clardy Funeral Service Chapel. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00
p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Clardy Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will
follow in the Denison Cemetery with Pastor Jimmy Jeter officiating.
