Charlene Storey, 80, went to heaven on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. Charlene passed away at her home, surrounded by family. Her services will be on Saturday, April 2 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in the Pleasant Hill Community, Haworth, OK. Graveside services will follow at Denison Cemetery, Idabel, Oklahoma. Family will receive friends at the Clardy Funeral Service Chapel in Idabel from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. on Friday, April 1. In lieu of flowers, Charlene requested that donations be made to her daughter and son-in-law’s non-profit, “Reaching Seeker’s Ministry” in Norman, Oklahoma, 612 Riverwalk Court, Norman, OK 73072 or gifts can be received at Charlene’s service. A designated gift box will be located in the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church on the day of the service.
Charlene was born on May 10, 1941 in Luxora, Arkansas to Doyle and Orean Self. Charlene and her family moved to Idabel in 1959. Charlene completed beauty college and she worked in Idabel for three years. As fate would have it, Jan Storey, saw Charlene Self at the Idabel Dairy Queen and the rest is history. They dated, fell in love, married on October 12, 1963. They made their home in the Pleasant Hill Community, where they ranched, raised children, and lived a great life. They moved to Idabel in 2006, where they made their new home.
Charlene loved her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Orean Self; her brother, Bobby Self; two nieces, Tana Woodrum (daughter of Judy Ogle) and Patrice Cockerham (daughter of Peggy Travis); mother and father-in law, Ila Mae Storey and Harris Storey; one brother-in-law, Terry Baker.
She is survived by a host of people who loved her, including her husband of 59 years, Jan D. Storey; her children, Janna Storey-Martin and husband Russ of Norman, OK and Michael Storey and wife Jodi of Idabel, OK; five grandchildren, Michael C. Martin, Jordan T. Storey, Megan L. Martin, Jansan B. Storey, and Matthew Storey-Martin; sisters, Peggy Travis and husband John and Shirley Butler and husband Roger of Idabel; two sister-in-laws and one brother-in-law, Judy and Joe Ogle, and Johnia Baker, and many other friends and family.
Charlene will be remembered as being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
