Daryl Cockrell Obituary

Robert Daryl Cockrell, 66 of Idabel, passed away August 9, 2022. He was born September 2, 1955, the son of Bob and Fritzy Cockrell. Although being born in Cortez, Colorado, then moving to California when he was young, he spent most of his life in McCurtain County. He was a member of the Faith Christian Center in Broken Bow.

Daryl loved exploring trails and being out in God's creation. He loved finding arrowheads and swimming holes. He knew the log woods better than most, always making it an adventure to spend the day exploring with him. He also enjoyed traveling to the mountains and found peace in these places. He loved spending time at home with his wife and dogs on his farm that he nicknamed "CCR" for Cockrell Cattle Ranch and an old favorite band. He loved working outside with his hands and could fix or build just about anything. He was gifted in this area and used his gifting to provide well for his family. He was a diligent and hard worker his entire life. He was a strong man with a tough exterior and a tender heart. He had a love for coffee, coin collecting, muscle cars, Fords, and driving fast. He loved unconditionally. He adored his dogs and always showed his true tenderness when it came to children and animals.

Daryl proudly served in the Navy Seabees and was stationed in various places overseas during his time of service. He loved his country and would always fight for what he believed in. He worked for Weyerhaeuser (now IP) since June 1980. He began in a tire shop, then worked in the log woods (during which time baby squirrels were brought home as pets for his daughters on more than one occasion), and eventually moved onto work at the Valliant paper mill. He was on the No. 1 machine for many years, where he was also known for his grit and strength in the workplace. He eventually moved into a position as a lab tester in the most recent years.

He was honored, loved, and respected by those who knew him best. He loved his Lord & Savior. He would boldly pray aloud at a moment's notice and declare his prayers in the name of Jesus Christ without hesitation. His booming voice, loud chuckle, and strong presence in a room will be greatly missed. His absence leaves a gaping hole for those who love him. He will live on through stories and memories passed down to his grandchildren.

Daryl is survived by his wife, Beverly Cockrell; daughters, Robbie Shuck and husband Kerry, Rebecca Clouse and husband Andrew; bonus sons, David McAdoo, JE McAdoo and wife Myranda; siblings, Randy Cockrell, Rory Cockrell, Tammy Cockrell, Wes Sehon, Wendy McDowell; grandchildren, Logan Shuck, Ledger Shuck, Kaitlyn Rose Clouse, Cade Clouse, Kenzie McAdoo, Mikayla McAdoo, Joscilynn McAdoo; three great-grandsons; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Claude and Tilly Cockrell; parents, Fritzy Lee and Bob Cockrell; and granddaughter, Serenity McAdoo.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Clardy Funeral Service Chapel on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Chuck Darby officiating.  Family will receive friends just prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m.
