Dian Gray was born on December 29, 1948, in Garvin, Oklahoma. She grew up in a
close rural community and attended Forest Grove School before graduating from Gray
High School in Idabel in 1967.
Dian met the love of her life, John “Sonny” C. Gray III, and they married on December
14, 1968. Their partnership was steady, loving, and rooted in a quiet devotion that
shaped the home and family they built. Over the years they shared many adventures
together. They moved often for Sonny’s career, making homes in Kansas, Texas, and
Oklahoma, and everywhere they landed they built a life filled with loyalty, and the simple
joys they valued most.
Together they raised their daughter, Ginger, and welcomed Jonathan into the family, a
son in every way that mattered. Their joy grew with the arrival of a grandson, Ethan
Crawford, who brought pride and much joy to Dian’s life.
Dian passed away on November 25, 2025, at her home in Burleson, Texas, surrounded
by the things she loved. Her flowers, her animals, and her husband of nearly fifty-seven
years were all close. Her loyal blue heeler, Blue, passed only moments before she did,
as if he chose to walk with her on the next part of her journey.
Dian is survived by her husband, Sonny; daughter, Ginger; son-in-law, Jonathan; and
grandson, Ethan Crawford and fiancé McKenna. She is also survived by her sister,
Deborah Rodgers, and her husband Jim; nieces Amanda Ross and family, and Tina
Kelly and family; and her sisters-in-law, Claudette Gray and Terrie Burris and family.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Clyde Shockley, and her mother,
Theda Shockley.
Private services were held at Denison Cemetery with Jay Clardy officiating.
