Dr. Jon Maxwell Obituary

Dr. Jon T. Maxwell, D.O., age 70, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at his favorite place, the Sain Ranch, in Goodwater, Oklahoma.  He was born August 23, 1950 in Amarillo, Texas to Doctors Wayne and Dorothy Maxwell.

Jon married his high school sweetheart, Debra Lane on May 24, 1975.  He graduated High School from Turkey, Texas in 1968, and West Texas State in 1972.  He continued his education, graduating from medical school as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1979.  After interning and completing his residency in Dallas, Texas, he and his wife Debbie made Idabel, Oklahoma their home in 1981.  Dr. Maxwell was in private practice in Idabel from 1981 to 2003.  He served as Chief-of-Staff at McCurtain Memorial Hospital for many years.  He was instrumental in the formation of Kiamichi Family Medical Center in Battiest, Idabel, Broken Bow, and Hugo.  He was the first practicing physician of Kiamichi Family Medical Center and continued to serve as the Medical Director for Kiamichi Family Medical Center until his death.  Dr. Maxwell was inducted into the McCurtain Memorial Hospital Hall of Fame in 2015.  He truly cared about people.  His patients loved him and many considered him not only their health care provider, but also their friend.

Dr. Maxwell was known for his dry sense of humor.  He was a one-of-a-kind guy and everyone has a story to tell about him.  He was very particular and liked everything tidy and in its place.  He looked forward to deer hunting season every year, and loved spending time at Broken Bow Lake.  He enjoyed spending time outside, especially with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Wayne Maxwell and Dr. Dorothy Maxwell and brother, Ross Maxwell.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter Emily Maxwell Herron; daughter and son-in-law, Tiffany and Chris Pratt; grandson, Kade Pratt; and granddaughters Ella Herron, Kate Herron, Adicyn Pratt, Colbie Pratt, and Sarah Pratt; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Tim Holland, and a host of very special friends that meant the world to him.   Doc will be greatly missed by many.
