Haroldine "Hunky" Norwood Obituary

Haroldine “Hunky” Norwood was born on December 27, 1922 to Harold Knox and Harriet Ann “Hattie” Napier. She died August 11, 2019 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, having lived most of her life in Idabel.

Hunky and Bill Norwood were married in Arkansas in 1945. They were married 51 years and had five children, twin daughters Sharon Kay and Karen Sue Norwood, Marilyn Sue Norwood-Kitchen and sons, Jim and Joe Norwood.

Bill and Hunky founded Norwood-Welch funeral homes in 1947 in Idabel and Broken Bow, OK. Bill, Hunky and the Norwood family served the communities of McCurtain County for over 60 years.  She loved socializing with her many friends of the community.  She always made everyone feel right at home. She was truly a jewel who had a gift of comforting families in their time of need.

Hunky had an energetic, bright and spunky personality. She always had a smile on her face and was quick with a compliment. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and a nice glass of iced tea. She truly loved being around family and hosting holiday dinners.

Hunky leaves behind to cherish her memory grandson, Brant and his wife Jenny Norwood of Edmond, OK; her granddaughter Reagan and her husband Michael Jacobs of Moore, OK, and granddaughter Christan and her husband Mason Adams of Oklahoma City, OK; five great-grandchildren, Braxton Norwood, Madliyn and Kinley Norwood, and Cannon and Embry Adams, all of Oklahoma City, OK; and a host of friends and families she served throughout the years.

Hunky was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Norwood; sons, Jim and Joe Norwood; daughters Marilyn Sue Norwood-Kitchen and twins, Sharon Kay and Karen Sue Norwood, who died shortly after birth.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Friday, August 16th, at the Clardy Funeral Service Chapel. Hunky’s family asks that friends and loved ones join them in a celebration of her life at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 17th at the First United Methodist Church of Idabel, Oklahoma with the Rev. Mark Polson officiating. Interment will follow in the Denison Cemetery.
