Henry Mitchell Hawkins was born to Willard and Johnnie Mae Hawkins on February 15, 1939. He made his transition February 10, 2021 at his home. He was named after his grandfather, Henry Hawkins. He attended Slater Elementary and Booker T. Washington High School where he was a good athlete and loved to sing.
Henry attended Macedonia Baptist church as a child and upon leaving Idabel he relocated to Wichita, Kansas with his older sister, Rosa. He later moved to Los Angeles, California where he met and married Patricia Berry. To this union 2 children were born, along with his bonus children Greg, Carla, and Reginald.
He worked for Price Pvista in California until his retirement. Upon retirement he moved back to Idabel to be close to his mom and brother, Clendell. Henry loved to hunt and as a child his favorite book was Walter Rat. He was a mama’s boy and would always ask “if mama was going”.
Those preceding him in death are his parents, Willard and Johnnie Hawkins; brothers, Clifford, Wilburn, and Clendell; wife, Patricia Hawkins; daughter, Carla; and son, Reginald.
He leaves to celebrate his life, his soulmate, Barbara Thomas-Hawkins; children, Michelle, Kevin, Greg, Teresa, and Charles; sisters, Rosa Anderson and husband, Joseph, Addye Hawkins; brother, Edward Johnson and wife, Patsy; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephew, and cousins.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the Clardy Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Michael Jackson and Rev. Granville Jett officiating.
