Horton McDonald Obituary

Rev. Horton H. McDonald, 94, longtime Assembly of God Minister, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Durant, Oklahoma.  He was born on March 14, 1927 in Battiest, Oklahoma, the son of Clay and Blanche Meek McDonald.   He was a graduate of Battiest High School.  Following high school he attended Eastern Oklahoma State College and Oklahoma State University.

On January 26, 1950, Horton and Joyce England were married in Clebit, Oklahoma.  He and Joyce began full time ministry in February 1953.  Being affiliated with the Assembly of God Denomination, Horton pastored churches in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi and Missouri until their retirement in 1993.  Rev. McDonald continued his ministry after the death of his wife, Joyce McDonald preaching revivals and pulpit supply.  He often said “A God called preacher never quits or retires, no more than a rooster quits crowing”.  Through the years he helped groom seventeen young preachers into the ministry.

Horton leaves to cherish his memory, his sons and daughter’s-in-law, Gary and Janice McDonald of Stringtown, Oklahoma, Denton and Sheva McDonald of Aubrey, Texas and Randal and Candy McDonald of Marietta, Oklahoma; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce McDonald; brother, Warner McDonald; sisters, Violet Baker, Wynola Smith, Winnie Raye Beck, Mattie Lou Nannel, Arbadell Brown and an infant sister and special friend, Pat Willingham.

A celebration of life service will be held at the Clardy Funeral Service Chapel, Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Randall McDonald and Rev. Don Benefield officiating.  Family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel, prior to the funeral service.
