James Davis, 64 of Canadian, Oklahoma, passed away May 30, 2019 at his home. He was born, March 4, 1955, at Blytheville, Arkansas, the son of Roland and Jimmie Davis.
He moved to Idabel from Blytheville, Arkansas at the age of thirteen when his family began farming. He loved playing sports, playing American Legion Pony League Baseball, and football for the Idabel Warriors.
He married his high school sweetheart in June 1973 and farmed full time with his dad and brother, Warren Davis, for many years. He and his family attended First Baptist Church where he began helping lead music and choir. He was very active in church and through his love for Jesus, God called him to Trinity to serve as music and youth director alongside Pastor Doug McClure. After five years, James felt the call to preach and was ordained and Chapel of the Pines in Broken Bow called him to be a bi-vocational pastor and later he became their first full time pastor. James served fifteen years at the High Hill Baptist Church in McAlester and Clayton for four years. He also served eight years with the Crossing Boarders Ministries and enjoyed his time assisting with kids bible schools, KBA and Falls Creek.
James loved to sing gospel music, golf, and go fishing and boating with his kids and grandkids.
James leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Susan Davis of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Cyndie and Aaron Milligan of Wilburton; sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Julie Davis of Virginia, Scott and April Davis of Krebs; father, Roland Davis of Idabel; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly and Gerald Don Branch of McRea, Arkansas, Sharon and Douglas Andrew of Broken Bow; sister-in-law, Cathy Davis of Rogers, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Jamey Davis, Tanner Milligan and fiancé, Madeline Jarrett, Adam Milligan, Jaron Milligan, Baileigh Milligan, Matthew Davis, Cameron Davis, Ozzlyn Lightle; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jimmie Davis; and brother, Warren Davis.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Idabel with Bro. Mike Perry officiating. Interment will follow in the Denison Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at High Hill Baptist Church in McAlester, Oklahoma, Monday, June 3, 2019 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
