Joe Coffman, 70 of Idabel, passed away on July 27, 2023 at 8pm in Houston Texas with his
beloved wife Jan by his side.
Joe Coffman was born on April 1, 1953, to parents George W. Coffman and Geneva Coffman,
in Rural Stratford, California.
Joe graduated from Idabel High School in 1972, where he was an active member of his FFA
chapter and was President his senior year. Being an active showman, he received Grand
Champion in 1970 and Reserve Grand for the county in 1972 with his Hereford.
Joe married his high school sweet heart, Jan Suggs, on August 31, 1972. Joe always made
sure Jan knew she was loved and never forgot their anniversary or special occasions. They
spent 50 blissful years together. Joe and Jan went on to have 2 sons, Jake Randall Coffman of
Broken Bow and John Witt Coffman of Haworth.
Joe worked as a ranch hand, veterinarian technician, rodeo pick-up man, road-grader operator,
and was elected McCurtain County District 2 Commissioner in 2013. He retired in 2021, having
served his county for 37 years.
In his spare time, Joe loved the art of working up a good trade. Whether it was trading for a gun,
truck, cattle or minnow bucket with a hole in it. He was always looking for good deals.
Joe always had a flare in story-telling. Reminiscing about the good ol’ days with friends and
family was one of his favorite pastimes.
Throughout Joes life his hobbies included taking care of his livestock, chuck wagon racing,
roping, hunting, fishing, mudding, watching grandchildren grow and spending time with family
and friends. Joe and Jan are active members of Trinity Baptist Church where they loved
spending time with their Sunday school class.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, George W. Coffman; mother, Geneva Coffman;
brothers, Sonny Coffman, Billy Ray Coffman, George Ed Coffman, Don Coffman, and Jackie
Elane Coffman.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Coffman; sons, Jake Coffman and wife Sharla, John Coffman
