Maria Mayhall was born June 7, 1928 at San Salvador, El Salvador. She grew up in Costa Rica where she became a citizen. A few years later, she met Odis Mayhall and he chased after her for over a year before finally giving in to him. The two were married November 19, 1956 in San Jose, Costa Rica. Shortly after, they moved to Venezuela and had two sons, Bill and Stephen. In August of 1966, the Mayhall’s moved to Idabel where they owned and operated the local Sears Store from 1967 to 1993. She also became a US Citizen during this time.
Maria had many hobbies after retirement. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and embroidery. She also grew “test” roses that she would document and send her findings back to the companies to help grown better, healthier roses.
Maria was tough. She had many tribulations throughout life that made her a strong woman. Her faith was most important to her and she shared this with her family. She had a love for her family and her grandchildren that was unprecedented.
Maria passed away September 7, 2022 at Memorial Heights Nursing Home at the age of 94.
Maria is survived by her sons, Bill Mayhall and Stephen Mayhall both of Idabel; grandchildren, Victoria Mayhall of Nashville, Tennessee and William Mayhall of Norman; sister, Roxanna Gutierrez; half-brother, Edgard Schmidt; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
