Mary Jo Hatfield, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on
February 7, 2025, at the age of 91. She was born on August 31, 1933, in Goodwater, Oklahoma, to Hudie
Ernest Talley and Alice McGough Talley. She was preceded in death by her loving parents; two
husbands, E.T. Smith and Don Hatfield; three sons, Elmer Lee Smith, Gerry Virgil Smith, and Gerald Dean
Smith; grandson, Daryl Smith; and her siblings, James Talley and Nadine Allen.
Mary lived a life full of love and laughter. Her journey through life was vibrant and multifaceted. She
held an associate's degree and worked various jobs, including a cook at a restaurant and a truck driver.
She was known for her artistic abilities, often expressing her creativity by painting rocks and pictures.
Her love for music and singing was evident as she would send songs via text to her friends and family to
share her love of music with them.
Mary was a woman of deep faith; she loved going to church. She was also an active member of the local
senior citizen center, where she enjoyed playing bingo, dominoes, and dancing with friends.
Her infectious laughter and playful joking with people brightened the lives of everyone she encountered.
She is survived by her sons, Benny Smith and Ricky Smith. She also leaves behind her brother, Douglas
Talley, and his wife Carolyn; sister, Ernestine Watson; special niece, Donna Sweeten, and her husband
Thomas. Additionally, Mary Jo is survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces,
nephews, and a wide circle of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Pauley Cemetery in Arkansas
with Thomas Sweeten officiating. Interment will follow.
