Mildred Rosalie (Smith) Abney, 93, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at her home
in Idabel, Oklahoma, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 30, 1932 to
Clarence Monroe Smith and Ersie Leona (Walker) Smith.
Mildred lived a long life centered on faith, family, and kindness. She was a member of Faith
Assembly of God Church in Idabel, where she enjoyed worship and fellowship with her church
family. She had a deep love for her family and especially treasured her grandchildren, who
brought her endless pride and joy. One of her greatest pleasures was cooking for those she loved,
especially the Sunday dinners she prepared after church. Mildred was also a dime collector.
Mildred was known for her warm heart and welcoming spirit. She loved everybody and truly
never met a stranger. Her home was a place where people felt comfortable, and her kindness left
a lasting impression on all who knew her. She will be remembered for her gentle nature, her
generous heart, and the love she freely gave to family, friends, and even those she had just met.
She was preceded in death by her parents; children, Brenda Slabaugh, Jim Kelly, Mickey Abney,
Tony Abney, and an infant daughter; brothers, Robert Smith and Billy Smith; sister, Reta
Hankins; grandchildren, Melissa Kelly, Jimmy Joe Kelly, and Anthony Ishcomer; and brother-in-
law, Lawrence Owens.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, J.R. Abney; grandchildren, Jesse
Jay Kelly (Shalisa Williston), Gala Kelly, Brian Ishcomer (Alicia), J.R. Landon Abney II, and
Scott Whitaker; brothers, Jerry Smith (Paula), Joe Smith (Joyce), and Wayne Smith (Mary);

in-law, Billy Hankins; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren,
nieces, and nephews; and her special friend and caretaker, Renee Williston, whose care and
companionship meant so much to her.
