Nita Fuller Obituary

Nita M. Fuller, 72, Midwest City, passed away July 12, 2022. She was born March 13, 1950 in Talihina,
Oklahoma, the daughter of Loyd and Ethel Fuller. She graduated from Gray High School, Idabel and
earned a BS Degree in Zoology and MS Degree in Wildlife Ecology from Oklahoma State University,
Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Nita began her career with the US Fish and Wildlife service as a biologist at Wichita Mountains National
Refuge in Oklahoma. From 1979 to 1983, she served as assistant refuge manager for the Bosque del
Apache National Wildlife Refuge Complex in New Mexico from 1983 to 1989 as refuge manager and
project leader at the Santa Ana and Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuges in South Texas.
From 1989 to 1993 she supervised 14 National Wildlife Refuges in the states of Arizona and New Mexico
as the Associate Manager, Arizona/New Mexico Refuges. From 1993 to 1995 she served in the Service’s
Washington headquarters as Deputy Chief of the Division of Refuges. From 1995 to 1998 she served as
Assistant Regional Director in the Service’s Great Lakes-Big Rivers Region in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
This region consisted of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. In
1998 Nita was named as Assistant Director for Refuges and Wildlife for the Interior Department Agency.
She was later named the Regional Chief of Refuges in the Midwest Region and was in this position until
her retirement in September of 2009. Nita always said that she was lucky to have been able to have a
job that was like a hobby to her, as she always enjoyed the outdoors and nature.
Nita leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Curtis Fuller (Chloe), Idabel; sister, Louise Fuller, Idabel;
step-sister, Martha Jane Hudgins (Charlie Ray), Idabel; nieces, Tina Pike (Tom), Paris, Texas, Pattie Jeanes
(Lance), Idabel, Gwen Campbell (Greg), Idabel, nephews, Allen Fuller (Lauran), Durant, Oklahoma, Alan
Hudgins, Idabel; several great-nieces and nephews; and her very best friend, Linda Hughes, Midwest
City.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the Del City Church of Christ, 1901 Vickie Drive, Del City, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, donations be made to Del City Church of Christ Community Cupboard, 1901 Vickie Drive, Del City, OK 73115, or to Blue Goose Alliance, % Ron Fowler, 6512 Williamsburg Blvd., Arlington, VA., 22213, or to your favorite charity.
