Nita McCain, 84 of Idabel, passed away October 7, 2020 at her home. She was born September 6, 1936 at Idabel, the daughter of M.C. and Annie Lee Womack. She attended Forest Grove Elementary School and was a 1954 graduate of Idabel Gray High School. She was a member of the Redland United Methodist Church.
Nita and her husband of sixty-five years, Billy, made their home in Idabel where they raised their five children. They were married September 2, 1955. She was a homemaker, sale barn café worker, rancher, tractor driver, hay hauler, cattle feeder, chicken farmer, volunteer worker, sports fan and ribbon roper. She never missed a ballgame, track meet, stock show or grandkids rodeo. She was a 4-H volunteer and leader where she was “mom” to many. She was responsible for starting the World’s Largest Junior Rodeo. She held a position on the Idabel Rodeo Board for several years and won the National Senior Pro Rodeo in Reno, Nevada and participated in the National Old Timers Rodeo Association. She won seven saddles and numerous trophy buckles over the years.
Nita always found the good in people. She was lovable, stern, but fair, personable and cared deeply for others. She was definitely the hardest working woman known to her family.
