September 28, 1940 ~ July 6, 2023 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Obituary

Patsy Ann Chadwick Smith was born September 28, 1940 in Tom, Oklahoma.  She entered into
eternity with her Lord and Savior on July 6, 2023 at the Brighton Senior Living Center in Katy,
Texas.  Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Neva Chadwick; brothers, Robert
Chadwick, Tommy Chadwick and Billy Joe Chadwick; sisters, Mildred Crawford, Doris Fishback,
and Linda Davis; and daughter, Yvonne Kimberlea Elliott.  Ms. Smith is survived by sons, James
Keith Yerta and wife Bonnie, David Yerta and wife Vickie, and Steven Smith and wife Tammy,
and daughter, Donna Landthrip; 12 grandchildren, Donna Dunham, Joshua Yerta, Stacey
Wingo, Desiree Yerta, Ramsey Elliott, Stacia Schimmel, Mariah Elliott, Sarah Rinn, Hannah
Landthrip, Laura Landthrip, Rhiley Cotner, Bailey Smith; 13 great-grandchildren, numerous
other relatives and friends.
Patsy was born in Tom and attended school in Tom through 8th grade.  She married Bill Yerta in
1954 and they moved to Georgia, then England, then returned to her beloved Oklahoma as he
served in the Air Force.  She then married Harold Smith in 1966 and settled in Guthrie.
Although she later moved to Elk City with her younger children,  her heart drew her back to live
in the countryside outside Guthrie where she lived and worked for 18 more years.
Patsy dedicated herself to taking care of and providing for her family.  She had a keen mind for
business and found many creative ways to make and save resources.  She often shared from
her excess to help out friends in need.  She obtained her GED and went on to receive an
Associates Degree and completed additional studies in Early Childhood Education.  Patsy
owned and operated day care centers for over thirty years and taught developmental
gymnastics, in addition to renting out properties.  She had a great love for children and had a
positive impact on many children and their families.
One of her great loves was cooking and baking for the family.  Her noted specialties were
chicken and dumplings and biscuits with chocolate gravy.  She enjoyed teaching her
grandchildren how to bake.  She also loved gardening and was very proud of her flower
gardens.  She also enjoyed traveling whenever she got the chance, but she most enjoyed
having her loved ones come to stay.
Patsy loved Jesus and her family very much.  She was often seen with her Bible in hand.  Her
faith gave her strength and peace that she shared with her children and grandchildren. She was
a mighty prayer warrior and has left a strong legacy of faith
In her later years,  Patsy experienced mental and physical decline; however, she maintained a
cheerful, positive attitude and kept her warm smile.  She continued to demonstrate great
strength and care for her family.  Though many memories faded, she remembered her children,
and she could complete Bible verses and join in hymns all her life.  Those who cared for her
were drawn to her sweet spirit.  Patsy looked forward to the glory of Heaven and seeing her
Savior and those who she had missed for some time.  Her family is blessed with the assurance
that she is now healed and whole and filled with joy as she waits expectantly for her remaining
loved ones to come and stay.
