Robert Young Obituary

Robert J. Young, of Haworth, passed from this life February 21, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.  Robert was born April 23, 1933, in Pleasant Hill, OK, to James William Young and Geneva (Hildreth) Young.

Robert was affiliated with the Haworth Assembly of God Church and had lived in McCurtain County all of his life.  Robert enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He once owned fighting roosters and he enjoyed watching roosters fight.  He had won several competitions.  Robert enjoyed dancing, being with his grandkids and watching his grandkids sporting events.  When Robert was younger, he was avid bird hunter.  He also took pride in his work in the log woods and traveling to different parts of the United States while working.  

Robert was proud to have served in the United States Army, Korean War era, from 1953-1955.

Robert married the love of his life, Wanda Lou Proctor, on January 8, 1953, in Lawton, OK.  They enjoyed fishing and hunting together, and watching their grandkids play sports.  Being with their grandkids are known to be one of their favorite times.  Robert and Wanda spent a wonderful 62 years together until her passing on August 11, 2015.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Lou Young; parents, James William and Geneva Young; son, Robert Young, Jr; grandson, Jessie Bates; brother, James E. Young; sisters, Sylvia Laney, Clemie Baxter, and Geraldine Brown; and aunt, Emily Myrick.

Robert is survived by his children: William Earl Young and wife, Sharon, of Pleasant Hill; daughters, Janet Young, of Haworth, and Pamela Cox and husband, Billy, of Union Grove; grandchildren, Billy Cox Jr. and wife, Kimberly, Mandy Bates Blue and husband, Troy, Craig Cox and wife, Misty, Kasey Engler and husband, Brandon, Mark Cox and wife, Cassandra, and Wendy Short and husband, Andy; great-grandchildren, Callie Craig and husband, Brandon, Jarret Bates and Lacee, Troy Blue Jr, Haylei Cox, Dalton Bates, Hunter Cox, Macee Short, Landon Cox, Hannah Cox, Colbee Short, Brooklyn Cox, and Everlee Short; great great-grandchild on the way, Eliza Bates; brother, William C. Young and wife, Rhonda, of Eagletown; sister, Bettie Harrison and husband, Butch, of Pleasant Hill; his significant other, Elvie Knighten, of Haworth; all of his friends at the Music Hall, Jake Smith, a fishing partner, Cody Sanford, his cowboy buddy, and Paul Delozier, a special friend; along with several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many, many other friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 12:00PM, at the Haworth Assembly of God Church, with burial to follow at Haworth Cemetery with military rites.

Visitation will be Friday, February 25, 2022 from 6-8PM at the Clardy Funeral Service Chapel.
