Ronald Homer Gilbert, beloved bubba, daddy, and pawpaw, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 20, 2020, at his home in Idabel with his family by his side. Ron was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on December 10, 1941, to Pat and Homer Gilbert. Ron was a draftsman most of his life, living mainly in Houston, Texas, before retiring to this area to be near his family. In his younger days, he enjoyed bow hunting, fishing and karate (even having a sparring match with Chuck Norris). In his later years, he enjoyed collecting guns and knives. All his days, he enjoyed fast cars and pretty women. He loved dogs, and his favorites were pit bulls, of which he had 4 over the past several years.
He was preceded in death by his mom and dad and his beloved pit bulls: Buddy, Rowdy, Patches and Mac. He is survived by his sister, Patti Gilbert of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; his daughter, Tammie Gilbert, of the home; his son, Dean Gilbert, of Bailey, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Helen Gilbert, of Sulphur Springs, Texas; former son-in-laws, Jeff Virgin and Joe Williams; former daughter-in-law, Terrie Daniel; his grandchildren, Kim and Dale Alsup; Skylre Virgin; Dannylle (his care-giver) and Ben Beggs; Cory, Gavin, Mason and Victoria, Brayden, and Jacey Gilbert; and great-grandchildren, Reygan, Delanee, Luke, Aubree, Mason Jr. and Maci Don.
Ron donated his body to science and asked that in lieu of flowers or a memorial service, donations please be made to the McCurtain County Animal Kare and Rescue at www.arkmccurtaincounty.com or at 580-236-2275.
