Shirley Moon

Shirley Anne Moon, 76 of the Forest Grove Community, passed away October 5, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born August 30, 1946 at Stillwater, Oklahoma, the daughter of Arch Perry Young and Dolly “Irene” Moles Young. The family moved to Breaux Bridge, Louisiana just six weeks after she was born. She married Haskell Moon on September 11, 1964 at Lafayette, Louisiana. She was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church. She was one of the first thirteen women in the United States to graduate from Truck Driving School.
Shirley was outgoing and never met a stranger. She loved everyone. She enjoyed family get togethers, cooking and reading. She also enjoyed Beanie Baby hunting and garage sales.
She worked numerous trades throughout the years, driving trucks, head cashier at Brookshire Brothers, several employment agencies as a Head Hunter, a receptionist at Tyson, cashiers at other locations and lastly a mechanic helper alongside her husband, Haskell, on a pipeline.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Melissa Kaye Moon-Brinkley and husband David; son, George Haskell “Bubba” Moon, Jr.; brother-in-law, Julius Courville; sisters-in-law, Barbara Young and Sandra Young; grandson, Dylan Moon; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arch and Irene Young; husband of forty-four years, George Haskell Moon, Sr.; siblings, Roger Perry Young, Bruce Young, Betty Jo Courville; daughter-in-law, Tonya Moon; grandson, Dusty Moon.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the Clardy Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Russell McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Monday, October 10, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Clardy Funeral Service Chapel.
