Thomas T. Coffman

Thomas Thad Coffman, age 85, of Idabel, Oklahoma, passed away on May 5, 2025, in Idabel. He
was born on March 30, 1940, to Harrison Alexander Coffman and Ruby Lee (Wilson) Coffman.
He married his beloved wife, Lorena Sue McBrayer, on June 25, 1965. Thomas was known and
loved by many names, but his favorites were Tommy, Daddy, and PopPop.
Thomas served in the United States Army as a telegraph operator, deciphering Morse Code. He
made a career working in heating and air, and as an electrician for Weyerhaeuser, until his early
retirement due to vision loss. Thomas was also a lifelong member of Calvary Missionary Baptist
Church in Idabel. He was a wonderful, entertaining storyteller and had a knack for silly poetry.
He also kept the staff at Hills Nursing Home entertained.
Tom was blind for the last 15 years of his life, but it did not diminish his love for reading
audiobooks. If Tom had a wish for those he knew and loved, it would be that they know Jesus as
their Savior, their dinner be piping hot, and their Dr. Pepper be ice cold.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings: Lesley, Harrison, and Mary O’Dessa
Frank.
Thomas is survived by his daughters, Shelley L. Coffman-Talley and husband Robin of Shawnee,
OK, and Melissa A. Pierce and husband Wayne “Buddy” Pierce of Idabel, OK; grandchildren,
Zachary Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Morgan Pierce, and Chris Pierce; and one great-granddaughter
on the way, whom he very much wanted to meet. He also leaves behind numerous nieces,
nephews, and loved ones.
Tom and his family are grateful for the Library for the Blind, as well as the Idabel and Broken
Bow Public Libraries’ selection of audiobooks.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider making a donation to the Idabel
Public Library in Tom’s name, so they may purchase audiobooks for the visually impaired.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on May 12, 2025, at Calvary
Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jason Clark officiating.
